Vannon the warrior suffers from poison delivered by the strike of an assassin. As his body battles the toxin his mind struggles against nightmare, and a god of dreams who seeks revenge. Lingering near death he confronts painful memories buried under years of hardship.

This is a novelette length story of Vannon the plainsman. He is a former slave, thief, and gladiator hunting the men who slew his family.

Breaking the Dream God The Adventures of Vannon Book 6 eBook CT Sanner

"Breaking the Dream God" is a fantasy short story and the fourth release in the "Vannon" series by author C.T. Sanner. The tales follow the continuing adventures of a warrior thief named Vannon. Enslaved, trained and raised as an arena gladiator, Vannon is now free to travel the land in search of wealth, women and glory. In this installment, Vannon, who is lying on his deathbed after being poisoned by an assassin's blade, relives memories of his past through delirium. In these dreams Vannon has also become a victim to the mental torturing's of a previous foe, the demon goddess Ayga. Sitting helplessly at his side are his lover Caspia and former slave over Rakeem. As the poison courses through Vannon's veins they can do nothing but desperately hope he survives. Here are my thoughts on Breaking the Dream God;

Pros

+ Old nemesis' resurface.

+ Contained a simple and colorful map of the area in which the Vannon stories take place.

+ Grim and gritty sword and sorcery content.

+ Well written.

+ Ayga is very well described and grotesque looking!

Cons <Contains SPOILERS>

- Cover art needs a bit more to it. A few more links of chain hanging from the letters would make the cover a bit more appealing.

- Dream flashback sequences could be a little confusing at times as they jumped around.

- Want to know more about Rygal. Maybe even read some of his adventures?

- Could have used a little bit more action.

- Didn't like that one of the characters was named Demeter, which is the name of the Greek goddess of the harvest. Just didn't fit.

"Breaking the Dream God" was another entertaining and engaging Vannon fantasy short. "The Adventures of Vannon" series has quickly become one of my new favorite sword and sorcery series. As I mentioned in previous reviews, Vannon is similar to heroes such as Robert E. Howard's "Conan" or "Kull" and Karl Edward Wagner's "Kane" and makes a perfect addition to a seriously dwindled genre. Good sword and sorcery is difficult to discover these days as virtually no one continues to write it. Epic, High, Urban and Paranormal fantasy dominate the category so it's refreshing to see authors who are still willing and interested in keeping the genre alive. I continue to look forward to reading more of Vannon's adventures. As always, keep 'em coming C.T. Sanner!
